AIRE at Sustainable Aviation Futures 2026

Our Senior Policy Advisor, Nadine Braun Amaral, attended Sustainable Aviation Futures 2026 in Amsterdam (15–17 June), where she contributed to discussions on the future outlook for the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) market beyond 2030.

As the aviation sector continues its pathway towards net zero, Europe is expected to play a central role in enabling this transition. In this context, effective mechanisms to channel EU ETS revenues back into aviation, together with stronger investment support measures, will be key to accelerating the deployment of SAF and e-SAF. These elements are essential to strengthening the overall business case for investment across the value chain.

Looking ahead, while HEFA-based fuels are expected to reach a critical turning point around 2030, meeting the growing demand for sustainable aviation fuels will require the development and scaling of a broader portfolio of production pathways.

Ensuring the right policy framework and investment conditions today will be crucial to keeping the sector on track towards its 2050 climate objectives and supporting a successful long-term energy transition in aviation.
