The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has published its latest Article 89 Report examining the relationship between aviation safety and socio-economic factors affecting safety-critical personnel across Europe.
The report concludes that there is no evidence of a direct link between employment conditions and adverse safety outcomes. Similarly, no systemic or causal relationship was identified between contractual arrangements, broader socio-economic factors, and overall aviation safety performance.
At the same time, the report underlines that fatigue remains an area requiring continuous monitoring, given its relevance to operational safety. It also highlights the importance of effective organisational communication as a key contributor to both operational performance and a strong safety culture.
In addition, EASA stresses the need for more comprehensive and harmonised data collection to support future evidence-based safety oversight across the sector.
Overall, the findings reinforce confidence in the resilience and effectiveness of the European aviation safety system while identifying areas for continued attention and improvement.
