Airlines International Representation in Europe (AIRE) proudly joins a broad coalition of aviation and climate stakeholders in signing a Joint Statement presented at the 42nd ICAO Assembly, urging host countries to take urgent action to support the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA).
The statement highlights the critical need for governments to issue Letters of Authorization under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. These authorizations are essential to unlocking the supply of CORSIA-eligible emissions units and enabling airlines to meet their offsetting obligations under the scheme. Without swift and coordinated action, there is a growing risk of supply shortages, undermining both compliance efforts and the environmental integrity of the scheme.
CORSIA plays a central role in helping international aviation meet its climate goals. Ensuring its effectiveness requires not only robust participation from airlines, but also clear, enabling frameworks from governments.
AIRE remains fully committed to supporting its members and working collaboratively with governments, regulators, and international partners to facilitate implementation, ensure access to high-quality emissions units, and advance the aviation sector’s broader sustainability goals.
AIRE encourages EU institutions and national governments to take immediate steps to support the successful implementation of CORSIA and reinforce international aviation’s contribution to global climate action.
