AIRE fully supports the urgent need for decarbonization and efforts to reduce aviation’s impact on the climate. However, it is important to recognize that the European Union is already a global leader in climate regulation. 

Placing excessive burdens on the industry—such as fuel taxation (including sustainable fuels), complex monitoring obligations, or insufficient support for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production—risks undermining the competitiveness of EU aviation. A balanced approach is essential to ensure environmental progress without placing European carriers at a strategic disadvantage on the global stage.
