AIRE participates in ICAO 4th Civil Aviation Legal Advisers Forum (CALAF/4)

Last week, Airlines International Representation in Europe (AIRE) was represented by Elena Jaraíz at the 4th Civil Aviation Legal Advisers Forum (CALAF/4), organised by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Nassau, Bahamas.

The forum brought together legal experts, regulators, academics, and industry representatives from across the aviation sector, offering an important platform to exchange views on the legal and regulatory challenges shaping the future of global air transport.

Discussions highlighted several key areas of focus, including the need for greater consistency in the interpretation and application of international aviation treaties in order to strengthen legal certainty worldwide. Participants also examined the evolution of aviation liberalisation towards more balanced frameworks that combine market access with sustainability, resilience, and broader policy objectives.

In addition, the forum addressed the increasing complexity arising from diverging passenger rights regimes and enforcement approaches across different jurisdictions.

A clear message emerged throughout the discussions: international cooperation and regulatory harmonisation remain essential to ensuring a safe, efficient, and globally connected aviation system.

AIRE welcomes the opportunity to contribute to forums such as CALAF/4, which enable meaningful engagement between regulators and industry stakeholders with the aim of strengthening and aligning international aviation legal frameworks.
