AIRE at “Keeping Europe Flying” event

Yesterday, Airlines International Representation in Europe (AIRE) attended the event “Keeping Europe Flying – Affordable, Competitive, Sustainable”, organised by MEP Cynthia Ní Mhurchú at the European Parliament in Brussels. The event addressed the essential role aviation plays in supporting Europe’s connectivity, economic competitiveness, and social cohesion.

Discussions highlighted that aviation connects people, regions, and businesses across Europe on a daily basis. However, rising operational costs risk reducing accessibility for European citizens. At the same time, the sector has the potential to significantly reduce its environmental impact, provided it is supported by a stable EU policy framework and adequate investment in sustainable technologies.

Key topics covered at the event included:

  • Ensuring affordable air travel for Europeans;
  • Maintaining regional connectivity and employment;
  • Supporting the decarbonisation of aviation while preserving operational efficiency;
  • Strengthening the sector’s competitiveness and long-term sustainability.

AIRE’s participation reflects its ongoing engagement in European policy discussions, contributing to the development of a framework in which aviation can remain efficient, sustainable, and competitive.
