Last week, Airlines International Representation in Europe (AIRE) participated in the New Mobility Congress (Kongres Nowej Mobilności) in Łódź, Poland. This event is recognised as a key forum for shaping the future of sustainable transport across Europe.
Contributing to the Debate on Sustainable Aviation
AIRE President Michael Harrington took part in two panel discussions focused on the aviation sector’s role in the green transition:
(i) Decarbonizing Aviation: The Sector’s Contribution to the Green Transition
This panel featured:
- Ourania Georgoutsakou (Airlines for Europe – A4E)
- Alicja Bulak (LOT Polish Airlines)
- Moderated by Mateusz Dziudziel (LOT Polish Airlines)
The discussion examined how aviation can align with the EU’s climate goals, with particular emphasis on the strategic role of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) and the regulatory frameworks required to enable a successful energy transition.
(ii) Driving Sustainable Aviation
This second session brought together:
- Krzysztof Moczulski (LOT Polish Airlines)
- Krzysztof Żychowski (Centralny Port Komunikacyjny)
- Mateusz Dziudziel
- Robert Ludera (LOT Polish Airlines)
- Michael Harrington (AIRE)
Panelists explored actionable steps to accelerate decarbonisation in the aviation sector, focusing on both practical and policy-related challenges.
A clear message on the path forward
In his remarks, Michael Harrington emphasised the importance of implementation:
“Europe has set ambitious regulations. The next challenge is execution — aligning fragmented national approaches, accelerating implementation, and creating financial and regulatory certainty to scale up SAF production.”
He highlighted that the issue goes beyond climate targets; it concerns the sector’s ability to grow sustainably, remain globally competitive, and continue contributing to Europe’s broader goals in mobility, innovation, and energy security.
Ongoing commitment to sustainable aviation
AIRE is proud to represent the airline community in these critical discussions. We remain committed to supporting practical, industry-driven solutions that advance the sustainable transformation of aviation in Europe.
